Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release and Sonex SX-One MicroKnife®
What are Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release and Sonex SX-One MicroKnife®?
Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release is an ultra-minimally invasive technique. This procedure is typically performed using a local anesthetic, which makes it very safe. This procedure utilizes ultrasound guidance along with the Sonex SX-One MicroKnife, which is an extremely small instrument.
Because USGCTR is an ultra-minimally invasive technique, patients can resume normal activity and get back to work faster than with traditional Open Carpal Tunnel Release. This technique is also generally preferred by athletes because it allows them to return to their sport and their training much sooner than traditional surgery.
The Sonex SX-One MicroKnife is a new, cutting-edge device that has made it possible for carpal tunnel release to be performed safely and effectively in an office setting using ultrasound guidance. This is a disposable device that transects the transverse carpal ligament (TCL) to successfully treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Ultrasound imaging is used during this procedure to visualize the transverse carpal ligament and relevant anatomic structures in real-time.
To perform the procedure, the SX-One MicroKnife is inserted through a small, minimally invasive incision over the proximal carpal tunnel region. Once the device is in position and the Stealth MicroGuards are deployed, the TCL Blade is advanced from the tip of the device to divide the transverse carpal ligament. Once this is completed, the TCL Blade is returned to its inactive position and the Stealth MicroGuards are deflated. The SX-One MicroKnife is then removed and the incision is closed with an adhesive strip, bandage, or sutures, depending on what is necessary.
Using the SX-One MicroKnife to treat carpal tunnel allows for a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that is an excellent choice for athletes or anyone that would like to restore their mobility and get relief from their carpal tunnel pain.
How Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release & Sonex SX-One MicroKnife® Heal Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a very common condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. This syndrome is caused when the median nerve, a major nerve in the hand, becomes compressed as it travels through the wrist. This nerve is what controls movement in the thumb as well as feeling in the thumb and first three fingers.
Using the SX-One MicroKnife along with ultrasound guidance to relieve Carpal Tunnel Syndrome minimizes a patient’s recovery time. In fact, most patients are able to return to work and the activities they enjoy in as few as 3-6 days. This procedure also allows most patients to have immediate motion so they can focus on getting back to their lives.
This procedure can also be performed in a procedure room or office setting using only local anesthesia. Additionally, because this is a minimally invasive procedure, patients usually do not require more than Aspirin or Ibuprofen to manage their pain and postoperative therapy is not typically required.
