SpineRenu: Dr. Brian Shiple’s Biologic Treatment for Back Pain Relief – Featured on WINK News

Dr. Shiple was recently featured on WINK News to speak about his revolutionary SpineRenu procedure. Rather than treating back pain with invasive surgical procedures, which often lead to a long, difficult recovery or even failed back surgery syndrome, Dr. Shiple has developed his very own regenerative option. Using biologic tissues that come from a patient’s own body, he has been able to provide many patients with the back pain relief they believed they could only dream of.

Whether patients seek back pain relief due to an injury or spine condition, SpineRenu may be able to help. Keep reading to learn all about the WINK News article and how this procedure may be able to help you.

A Biologic Treatment for Back Pain Relief

For about 20 years, 50-year-old Jeff Lane had been suffering from back pain. At times it was bearable, but at other times it could be excruciating.

“I just felt this shot of pain that went, literally, from my skull to my feet,” Lane said. He had tried pain relievers, prescription medication, stretching, yoga, and even spinal disc surgery, with no or only temporary relief. Finally, a friend referred him to Dr. Shiple, an orthopedic specialist focusing on non-operative back pain relief and other orthopedic conditions. As part of these non-operative treatments, Dr. Shiple is experienced in many advanced regenerative orthopedic treatments, including SpineRenu, his own protocol.

“When we are performing our SpineRenu program, we’re actually making four different products from the patient’s blood and bone marrow,” Dr. Shiple explained.

During the procedure, Dr. Shiple draws blood from the patient to make platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a common regenerative biologic. Water is then extracted from the leftover plasma to treat and heal the injured or damaged spinal disc. “It ends up with a very thick, yellow-looking fluid, and we inject that into the annular tear,” Dr. Shiple explains.

Finally, the joints at the end of the spine are treated with concentrated bone marrow. Lane explained that he “was virtually pain-free the next day.”

Prior to undergoing SpineRenu treatment for back pain relief, Jeff Lane’s life was impacted. He had to be careful around his own dogs due to their size, which affected his ability to spend time with them. One of his dogs in particular weighs 140 pounds and is quite energetic, which made playtime risky with his painful back.

“I can play around with her now and not worry about hurting my back .”

What is SpineRenu?

Dr. Shiple developed SpineRenu after working with many Workers’ Compensation patients due to undergo surgery. He knew that the likelihood of these patients returning to work after surgery was very low and felt that there had to be a better way to treat patients. 80% of Workers’ Compensation patients treated with SpineRenu reported between 50-70% improvement in their pain. The best part is that the majority of patients that experienced back pain relief were able to return to work. Dr. Shiple then trained other doctors working with Worker’s Compensation to perform SpineRenu to continue helping patients get back to work and their normal lives.

SpineRenu allows athletes and non-athletes alike to get back pain relief without surgery as well as to get back to their lives without surgery and without limits on mobility. It is an outpatient procedure performed using a small needle and x-ray guidance for injections.

SpineRenu is not covered by insurance and its cost is between $8,000 to $14,000. While PRP is not FDA-approved, PRP and bone marrow concentrate injections can be offered in an office setting for what’s called off-label treatment of spine and disc injuries.
